I think cyclopropyl ether is a ring structure with 3 carbon atoms and one oxygen atom all in the ring and has the formula C
3
H
6
O (each C atom has 2 H atoms attached).
A propyl group, C
3
H
7
, is attached in place of one of these hydrogen atoms.
So I think the formula should be C
3
H
7
C
3
H
5
O
However, I am not an expert on this aspect.

I don't think I could break it down any more than kingchemist has done. I must say, organic chem is hard to teach =/

Any time something is named with the -yl suffix, it's considered a substituent. In this case, it's because that's the generally accepted way of naming an ether - name the things connected to it as substituents.
Look at the O that constitutes the ether linkage, then name each 'side.'
I agree on C
3
H
5
OC
3
H
7

I agree with Chris. The O is a connector between the two carbon groups. The oxygen is NOT part of the 3 carbon ring.
"The ethers are named by naming the radical on either side of the oxygen atom, and adding the word ether."

I had this attached to my last post, but it doesn't seem to be working for me.
