1. a chemical reaction between a solid and a liquid produces an acidic gas. On the back of this sheet, draw a labelled diagram of the apparatus which you would use to pass the gas through pH indicator solution.

A 5.90 g sample of SiH4 and an excess of oxygen were placed in a reaction container surrounded by 3.00 kg of water. The initial temperature of the water was 17.40°C. At the end of the reaction, the temperature of the water was 44.20°C. Assume the heat was completely absorbed by the water and no heat was absorbed by the reaction container or the calorimeter or lost to the surroundings. Calculate the heat released in the reaction. The specific heat of water is 4.184 J/g·°C.

A capillary electrophoresis experiment is setup using a fused silica capillary. Total length is 1M and effective length 85cm. Voltage 30,000. Electrolyte buffered at pH5. Detector near cathode. Compound has migration time of 12 mins
Q) From details can the charge of the compound be deduced?
Q) Neutral marker introduced and has migration time of 5 mins. The Eff mobility is negative can the charge be deduced?
Q) if iso electric point of the compound in 4 and the buffer sol dropped to 3, is charge + or -?
Finally
no of plates is 25099 and diffusion co efficient 2x10 -5, explain y smaller molecules have poorer separations than larger ones?
