Knowing When a Reaction is Complete

Say you have a potassium permanganate solution. I know that it is a dark purple solution. Now, when you quickly pour oxalic acid into the potassium permanganate solution, how do you know that the reaction is complete?
Would it be when it turns into a clear, colorless solution?
